Obama Wants Europeans To Vote In US Elections

Taking chutzpah to the limit, the junior Senator from Illinois presumed to be in the same company as Presidents Kennedy and Reagan, as he visited Berlin to give a speech this week.

He alleged that he was visiting as a private citizen, not a member of Congress, nor as a candidate. But, of course, he was there for political reasons. For instance, his staff explained the Black Adder's refusal to visit US troops in the country because the funds for his trip were from his Presidential campaign war chest.

Funny, eh? Even the simplest of explanations by this guy get complicated and conditioned.

That must be what 'post-partisan' looks like. Because Obama says so.

But, back to the theme of his Berlin address.

Like Democratic Presidential candidates before him- Gore and Kerry- Obama clearly thinks that the European opinion of the US and its President are far more important than those of mere US voters.

Why else to go to Berlin and attempt to look sage, Presidential, and capable of 'handling' foreign affairs.

But, of course, giving a speech to a bunch of Berliners in a country that wishes Americans would quit forcing them to make hard foreign policy choices is way different than actually conducting foreign policy as President of the US.

Does the Black Adder know this difference? Sadly, probably not. Lacking any significant life-experience that would matter for being President, why should he now doubt he is unqualified to do anything?

I'm sure Obama wishes Europeans could vote in US elections. His kind believe that world opinion counts for probably more than the mere opinions of those Americans who do not agree with his positions.

And since Obama is clear in his desire to avoid ever using American military force, Europeans love him. They have had a thinly-veiled hatred of American power since 1945. It's really a passive-aggressive thing. They want our protection, but only on their terms. When they want safety, they come running. When they want to feel important, like they once were over a hundred years ago, they eschew American values and power.

Right now, Obama is their guy. He'll kowtow to them like nobody's business.

Too bad for the rookie Senator that European views carry little weight in US Presidential elections.

Obama's Latest Ploy To Fool Voters

The rookie Senator from Illinois was busy trying to fool 'all of the people some of the time' this week as he quickly appeared for photo ops in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Hoping that literally punching his airline ticket to these destinations will equate, for some voters, foreign policy heft and experience, he finally chose to visit the globe's current hotspots.

I don't believe John McCain is the world's best foreign policy expert. But, as a long-serving Senator and mature adult, I think he is as well-suited as most Presidential candidates to grapple with the challenges in that arena. Probably better than many, actually.

In contrast, the inexperienced first-term Senator Obama has little practical experience outside of his political infighting in Springfield, Illinois, and Chicago's South Side.

Will a few well-posed pictures of the Black Adder looking thoughtful and wise amongst the hills of Afghanistan or the sands of Iraq propel him to victory in November?

If they do, then we, as a country, deserve the rookie we get as a result.

Obama's predecessor is credited with that great statement about fooling people. It looks like the current junior Illinois Senator is only focused on fooling, not actually faithfully executing the office of President of the United States.

Reagan Democrats Still Exist

Last week I was fishing with my daughter in southern West Virginia.

The part of the state where we were is solid Bobby Byrd country. His name is plastered on various public works, and you can see that the man certainly worked to bring Federal cash to his state.

Our guide fishes and hunts, of course. So I jokingly asked him if he was bitter?

He laughed, knowing exactly to what I referred.

Expanding on my joke, he called himself a 'dollar Democrat,' but declared he will be voting for McCain.

No Black Adder for him. It boiled down to, as he put it,

"McCain is a veteran, and was a POW. That's all I need to know."

This is actually what I suspect will be replayed countless times across the broad belt of 'blue' states this November.

Our guide is not an older man. He's not yet 40. He is, in his way, a very successful entrepreneur.

On the basis of his demographics, you'd assume he's a liberal Democrat. He has assembled several businesses, is self-employed, and probably has no major medical coverage.

But he owns several rental properties. Has virtually no debt. And sends his child to a private religiously-affiliated local school, because he and his wife know better than to let their child languish in the area's public schools.

Yes, I think many more people like our guide will be turning away from Illinois' freshman Senator this November, and pulling the lever for the American with whom they can identify.
